Spotlight - Kathy C. Flanagan, M.D.

Kathy C. Flanagan, M.DKathy C. Flanagan, M.D., president of the Houston Medical Forum, is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. A solo, private practitioner in the Upper Kirby area of Houston, she specializes in mood disorders (depression, anxiety, bipolar affective disorder) and adult ADHD.  

In addition to her thriving medical practice, Dr. Flanagan is a much sought-after speaker. She frequently travels around the country educating physicians and other health care practitioners about mood disorders and their treatments. She is also a consultant for the National Football League.

Dr. Flanagan is a former assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine where she served as the deputy medical director of Ben Taub General Hospital Emergency Psychiatric Unit. She is a past recipient of two distinguished national honors: Rappaport Fellow of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, and American Psychiatric Association/National Institute of Mental Health Fellow.

In 2008, then Governor Rick Perry appointed Dr. Flanagan to the Texas Medical Board, District One Committee. She also serves on the Advisory Committee to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, National Medical Association, Texas Medical Association and Harris County Medical Society. 

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Flanagan received her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and completed her general adult psychiatric residency at Baylor College of Medicine

Dr. Flanagan has a passion for community service. She currently serves on the boards of Career and Recovery Resources, Inc., and the Menninger Clinic Foundation. In the past, she has served as the gala chair and/or coordinator for the Houston Medical Forum Annual Scholarship Gala.

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends and listening to music.
